Firefighter arrested for selling jobs

The firefighter has been with EMS for over eight years.

An Emergency Management Service firefighter has been arrested for fraudulently selling jobs and certificates to the public.

“The department has reason to believe more people are involved in this scandalous syndicate,” media liaison officer Nana Radebe said.

The firefighter has been with EMS for over eight years at one of the fire stations within the City.

The Johannesburg Metro Police’s Internal Affairs unit had been instructed to probe alleged corruption after a tip off from a concerned employee.

A criminal case is currently underway and it will run concurrently with the internal disciplinary process.

The Public Safety department has recently advertised positions for EMS Firefighter/EMT and JMPD officers’ positions where appropriate recruitment processes will be adhered to.

“No positions are sold,” Radebe said.

“We wish to condemn this criminal behaviour and we will ensure that all those involved are made to account.

“We will not tolerate corruption and cannot neglect our primary responsibility and commitment to save lives and preserve property.”
