Syndicate gang arrested in Jabulani
Five suspects positively linked to a hijacking syndicate in Jabulani Hostel.
Five men got arrested in Jabulani and Zondi on Monday morning after being suspected of being involved in a car hijacking syndicate.
“The first man was found at Jabulani Flats and he pointed out the others.
“The second man was found in Jabulani Hostel while another man got arrested in Zondi Two.
“The police learnt that the third suspect was in Emndeni and when they got to where the man lives they surrounded the house.
“After the police knocked at his door, he tried escaping but failed and ended up shooting himself in the head,” said police spokesperson Mphande Khoza.
The arrests took place under the police’s Operation Fiela which is aimed at curbing down the syndicate of vehicle theft.
The operation put together by Crime Intelligent Unit, Canine and Vehicle Theft and Identification Unit started at 3am at Jabulani Hostel, resulting in the arrest of an alleged car hijacking gang and will continue to make arrests in other areas such as Dobsonville.
Authorities say they have been following leads and managed to trace the syndicate, resulting in a positive link between the arrested men and the car hijackings that have been taking place.
