Gauteng schools gear up for the Danone Cup

Farrarmere Primary School go into the Danone Nations Cup as favourites to prevail.

Yesterday, April 15, saw Gauteng schools competing in the U12 Danone Nations Cup at cluster level.

Cluster winners will go and compete at the regional finals set to take place on May 14.

One of the participating schools, Farrarmere Primary School, is considered as favourites to win.

The school missed the opportunity to play in the world finals in Brazil last year after losing on penalties to Siphumelele Primary School.

The school is back again and its coach, Moeketsi “Pride” Moorosi is determined to go a step further this time around.

He said they know all the schools they will be playing against and have already won a prestigious tournament recently so the cluster games should be smooth for them.

He said they are confident that they will be progressing to the next level in the tournament, but from then onwards they will be challenged.

“Meeting up with the schools from the other districts will not be easy but I have faith that we will reach the provincial and national playoffs in the tournament,” said Moorosi.

Participating schools include Farrarmere, Rynfield Primary School, Tom Newby School, Benoni West Primary School, Summersfields Primary School, Laerskool Verkenner, Laerskool Westwood and Kathstan College.

The school that will win the nationals finals of this youth soccer competition will represent the country at the Danone Nations Cup World Finals set to take place in Morocco later this year.
