Major Mark Mngomezulu says the incident happened when the officer visited his partner.
Mngomezulu says the man allegedly used his service pistol in the shooting.
“The motive of this shooting is unknown but an investigation is underway to determine the cause,” he said.
He confirmed that a case of murder, attempted murder and an inquest docket has been opened at the police station.
