No Generations for the next two months – SABC

Popular soapie Generations on a two month hiatus.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) says popular soapie Generations will take a two month break to revamp itself allegedly due to the dismissal of 16 actors.

The SABC announced that the soapie will go off air from October 1 until December to allow more episodes to be recorded.

The last recorded episode will be aired tonight.

It’s been over a month since 16 of the soapie’s main actors went on strike demanding increased salaries, royalties and other benefits.

Last month MMSV Productions said the 16 actors were not irreplaceable and vowed to continue the soapie without them.

SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says: “Whether the actors are coming back or not, that is neither here nor there.

“The fact of the matter is whether they are coming or not coming, the episodes will be finished come the end of September, we had to have a contingency plan.”
