A 38-year-old mother was arrested and remains in police custody following the death of a nine-year-old girl in a fire incident that burnt a shack in Doornkop.
Dobsonville police communications officer constable Mzwakhe Xazi said the woman allegedly left three children in her shack to visit a boyfriend.
Xazi said two nine-year-old children and one 13-year-old child were left alone in the shack.
One of the two nine-year-old children sustained serious injuries and the other had no injuries.
There are claims that the fire may have been caused by a faulty electrical cable.
A child neglect case has been opened at the Dobsonville Police Station.
The woman will appear in court soon.
