Man in his 20s found dead

Police urge residents to come identify body of dead man.

A body of a man was recovered on the railway tracks at the Westbury train station, this past Tuesday.

“The man was in his 20’s and has not been identified yet,” said warrant officer, Thomas De Bruin from Sophiatown Police.

The corpse was found early on Tuesday morning by security guards at the train station.

Eyewitnesses say that when waiting for the 9am train they realised that the train was not going to arrive.

“The security guards came and told us that there was a body on the train track and they are waiting for the police to arrive at the scene to remove the body,” said Maria Seedat, who rides the train everyday.

“Eyewitnesses told us that they saw the man jump in front of the train,” said De Bruin.

An inquest docket has been opened at Sophiatown Police Station.

Police are urging residents to contact them if your loved one has not come home and he is in his 20s.
