The team donated supplies amounting to R4000 including sanitary towels towards the learning institution.

Winners of the second Dobsonville Master Charity Tournament, Kalawa FC took part of their cash prize winnings to the Dr Mary Malahlela Special School in Dobsonville where they donated essential toiletry supplies for learners.

The charity initiative started in April is part of a commitment towards uplifting the community.

The charity tournament happens twice a year, during Easter weekend and in September in a bid to not only promote sports but also give back to the community.

The team donated supplies amounting to R4000 including sanitary towels towards the learning institution.

“We chose a school that caters to children living with different disabilities. We wanted to raise awareness as well about the unique challenges they face in ensuring that these learners too are not deprived of having equal access to quality education.

“Through the donation we wanted to land a hand as we stay in this community,” said Kwala FC captain, Dennis Tlhapane.

The school was a primary school and in 2021 was converted into a special needs school, categorized for learners with severe intellectual disabilities (SID). It currently accommodates 297 learners from Grade R to Grade 5.

The purpose of the tournament is to have an impact and make a difference to institutions or organisations based in Dobsonville that work with children.

According to the organisers, the ethos of the tournament was to bring unity and go back to humanity.

“We started this tournament particularly for the children. Most of these children come from different backgrounds, some from more severe conditions than others and that’s the gap we wanted to close.

“We often interact with them during our Sunday games and we were moved to do something for them.

“It moved from just each bringing food for them, to now expanding towards reaching the broader community and addressing the challenges that we see prevalent in the area,” explained Teboho ‘Sese’ Lebajoa, coordinator of the Dobsonville masters organisation.

Julia Nedzamba, the principal lauded the soccer team for their contribution saying they have played an immerse role.

“We thank them for keeping the school in mind especially when it comes to sanitary towels and tissues.

“These are some of the products that we rely on heavily, it will bring great relief. When we started in 2021, we had only 31 learners and the number has significantly increased which tells you that there is a need within our community.”
