Residents are called upon to rally behind the project by donating suites, dresses, shoes, accessories and everything that can be used by matric learners wishing to attend their farewell event.

The collected items are then handed out to those who need them the most during an event to be hosted in October.

Alicia Solomons from the Sisterhood Foundation said reaching matric is a milestone which some people are unable to achieve and it is important to show appreciation and assist those who are less fortunate celebrate it.

The programme does not discriminate as it has helped learners beyond Eldorado Park, reaching areas as far as Diepkloof, Ennerdale and Westbury.

“We have sponsors who come on board and assist with accessories, hair, makeup and everything that helps these children feel special,” explained Solomons.

“The most important thing about this is that we are trying to boost these kids’ confidence, make them feel good and look forward to enjoying their matric dance.”

Every year the project targets about 200 learners and it has been possible through sponsorship and the support of the community. Anyone who is able to assist in anyway is welcome to contact Solomons from the Sisterhood Foundation on 063 393 3301.
