The Life 4 U Foundation took a significant step toward fighting poverty and promoting sustainable practices in its community on July 18.

On a day of service and giving back, the hostel launched a food garden initiative, planting gardens at the Sethokga Hostel itself and delivering gardening materials to 50 elderly households.

Furthermore, the foundation provided lunch to 2 500 community members, showcasing their commitment to uplifting their community.

Their efforts were made possible through partnerships with Beta Bets, Afrinov, and the Gauteng Department of Social Development.

At the hostel, tyre garden beds were installed to maximize space and create a vibrant urban garden.

According to the founder of the organisation, Simon Molekwa, through this approach, the minds behind the project showcased resourcefulness and creativity.

“Tyre gardening not only allows for easy cultivation but also significantly reduces the ecological impact through upcycling materials that would otherwise end up in landfills.

“Extending our efforts beyond the hostel walls, Sethokga Hostel faced the critical issue of food insecurity among elderly households in the area.

“By providing gardening supplies to 50 households, the initiative empowers the elderly to embark on their own journey towards sustainable living.

“Through this partnership with Beta Bets, Afrinov, and the Gauteng Department of Social Development, the foundation epitomizes the power of collective action to fight poverty, creating a more equitable and just society,” said Molekwa.

It was a day filled with purpose and community engagement as the foundation also distributed lunch to 2 500 community members.
