Implanted prevention available at Zola Clinic

Prevention method launched, intended to last for three years.

An implanted form of contraceptive which is designed to last for three years waslaunched at Zola clinic last week Thursday.

Females between menarche (when you start with periods) and menopause, particularly young adults, are invited to visit the clinic for easy and long lasting family planning.

The contraceptive uses a slow depositing system and is implanted into the client in the form of an injection on the clients’ non-dominant arm, so if the patient is right handed it is implanted in the left arm.

Constantly visiting the clinic for monthly injections or pills will now be a thing of the past as the Implanon is available to the community free of charge at the Zola clinic.

Noxolo Khambule is one of the first to use the service in our area and says its convenience outweighs the cost of minimal side effects.

“I heard about this contraceptive on television and I became interested. While researching it, I found out that doctors actually offer the service but it costs R1 200.

“Recently I heard that Zola clinic offers the service so I rushed here because I intend on having a three or five year gaps before I give birth,” Khambule said.

Sister Sarah Shirinda says this will help individuals control having to give birth and, most importantly, they need only return after three years.

“This form of prevention is ideal, especially for the youth.

“From now on, there shouldn’t be any excuse for unwanted pregnancy because the side effect of this method are minimal, they include headaches, once off bleeding after the injection or continuous but irregular bleeding, depending on the individual’s body type,” Shirinda said.

Sister Betty Ringani works with Shirinda and says that if an individual decides to remove the implant, a removal service is also offered at the clinic so it wont inconvenience anyone if they change their decision.
