Pimville boot camp program to promote health awareness

The purpose of the boot camp was to promote the significance of health in the community which had a mixture of full body workouts as well as educating people about their diet.

Pimville Aerobics Studio hosted their third boot camp programme on Saturday at the Pimville Community Centre.

Thulani Nyuliwe, gym trainer explained that, “The idea of gym is not only for fitness. It is about how to maintain your weight, how to maintain your health and your immune system.”

“Others come to the gym to find a refreshing space away from the stress at home. It is a balance of everything in life generally.”

According to Dorcas Shongwe who also attended the boot camp and a member of the gym, this helps her keep her muscles rejuvenated and help maintain her sugar and high blood levels stable.

This has also been her of therapy and stress reduction since the death of her husband.

“I lost my husband last year and ever since I’ve started with the gym and boot camps, I am slowly learning how to deal with the death of my husband and forget about the pain and loneliness,” said Shongwe.

The whole purpose of attending gym and boot camps is to help balance ones immune system, but whenever people are advised to look into their diet, they come up with a lot excuses which include not being able to afford.

Drinking a lot of water is free and not over cooking your vegies and reducing fat from your daily meals is less expensive. Use what you have to maintain your daily diet.

“They help us know the importance of eating healthy food as people from the township. We eat a lot of junk foods that contain fat and may cause us different sicknesses.

“Coming to the gym is important to eliminate unhealthy habits,” said Zimbini Masuku, another member of the gym.

Pimville Aerobics Studio operates from Monday to Saturday, 7am until 9am and for evening sessions Monday to Thursday from 6pm until 8pm at the PCC.
