Eskom aware of power cuts

Eskom, doing their all to keep power on this winter.

Eskom says they are doing all in their power to keep the lights on this winter, and to ensure minimal disruption in the provision of electricity.

“Eskom is aware and particularly concerned about the recent incidents where residents experience power failures. Any disruption in our service remains our concern hence we work around the clock in such instances to restore supply to our customers swiftly,” said Corporate Affairs Lerato Nkosi.

Nkosi added that residents need to know the difference between unplanned outages and load shedding.

“Unplanned outages could be caused by overloading or technical faults, or by illegal connections. These are unpredictable. Load shedding would be when there is a shortage of capacity and areas or suburbs will be without electricity for certain periods, as per municipal schedule. Municipalities and Eskom customers will be notified should load shedding be applied as per schedule. Please be assured that we will resort to load shedding only if there is no other way to save our networks,” she said.
She added that in the light of the tight capacity, Eskom would like to, once again, request residents to use electricity sparingly, though, especially in the crucial period between 5pm and 9pm, because that is the period when the networks are under the most severe strain.
