The donation of the food parcels comes after the pair interacted with the Gauteng MEC for health, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko in Diepkloof Hall two weeks prior to the donation.

Pelican Light Foundation aims as advocating for underprivileged families in Soweto and nearby areas.

According to the co-founder of the organisation, Danny Boshamane, MEC Nkomo-Ralehoko showed interest in their work after they explained what their organisation is about and their vision in assisting communities.

“That is how we got we know about the family, through the referral we received from the MEC and from that moment we were prepared to travel all the way to assist them because we are all about advocating for underprivileged families.

“We therefore managed to go through with the donations and we appreciate working with the MEC, we are able to give back to those who are in need with the little we have,” Boshamane said.

Boshomane added that the family that received the donations consist of ten members with parents who are unemployed and struggling to make ends meet.

“The parents are struggling to take care of eight children and themselves and they also have chronic illnesses and have to take their medication.

“With the little that we donated, they will be able have a meal for those few days and with God by our side, we can be able to raise funds in the future and hopefully be able to donate to them on a regular basis.”

The organisation is also focusing on assisting alcohol and substance addicts in the area, with an effort to help bring their lives back on track and get them enrolled into rehab working with relevant stakeholders.

“We are really humbled to go around and pledging our hands to various families in needs, including those outside Soweto. Through our time working with communities we have realised how much people need help and with the needed resources we can be able to meet those needs.”

Pelican Light Foundation donated the food items to a family referred by the Gauteng MEC of health, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko.

The recipient of the donation, Leonard Tshishonga expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organisation for their effort and taking their time to drive all the way to make the donation.

“We are always grateful for the little we receive from good Samaritans like the Pelican Light Foundations because it goes a long way.

“We pray that God increase and bless their pockets as well as their hearts because this comes from the goodness of their hearts. We are happy to be the chosen family to receive this kind gesture today,” Tshishonga said.
