Local NPO hosts learners for lunch

Black Men Uplift Community put smiles on the faces of about 100 learners at Bopanang Primary School as they treated them with nutritious meals on May 04.

The team also donated two pairs of brand new school shoes to two underprivileged learners and also requested for a list of learners who are in need of school shoes from the principal, Bathini Mtshali for future donations.

Black Men Uplift Community is a non-governmental organisation comprising of local residents on a mission to assist Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in the area. They do this by providing access to a range of resources to ensure that the children’s nutritional needs are met.

The school lunch which was wholly subsidised by Black Men Uplift Community Organisation, consisted of a fresh sandwich as well as juice and fruits.

Bopanang Primary School learners enjoyed their day with a scrumptious lunch sponsored by the Black Men Uplift Community.

The organisation said this intervention was not a once off thing and they plan to make it a regular part of their contribution to the school. In addition, the organisation also compiled an inventory of the learners’ shoe sizes with a view to procuring new school shoes for the entire student population.

“As former learners of Bopanang and Sedibeng Primary School, we wanted to utilise the little resources we had to make a positive impact in the lives of the learners.

“Many of these learners come from impoverished homes, and through this intervention we wanted to renew their hope for the future and ensure that their nutritional needs are taken care of,” said co-founder of the Black Men Uplift Community Organisation, Pule Lebelo.

Bopanang Primary School learners enjoyed their day with a scrumptious lunch sponsored by the Black Men Uplift Community.

“We want to initiate the process of change towards a better quality of life by ensuring the regular provision of lunch meals to the learners. We will be working with the school to improve teaching and learning conditions as our short term goal and we also appeal to like-minded community members to join us as we work to prioritise our learners.”

The team believes that as one of the historic institutions in Diepkloof, residents should work together to preserve the dignity of the schools but more importantly, ensure that the learners are exposed to a conducive learning and teaching environments.
