Premier encourages youth to be self-sufficient

Gauteng premier David Makhura encouraged youth to develop enterprises.

Gauteng premier David Makhura spoke at Vilakazi Street after taking part in the 3rd annual Metro Fm “Walk to freedom” commemoration on June 16.

Makhuru told the youth that they should be more township enterprises.

He said government should be able to buy from township enterprises.

“There are people who make furniture in the townships, I don’t see a reason why we should buy furniture from Sandton when we can buy it right here,” he said.

He added that the government will assist by giving skills to the youth.

Makhuru also said that townships need to be more self sufficient by producing what they consume.

“Money from the townships needs to stay in the townships. You need to make your own bread and even clothing. There is no need to go elsewhere if you can produce what you consume,” he said.

He added that the only way young people will succeed is if they get an education.
