The city introduced the vaccination campaign because of the threat of measles to young people in Gauteng.

The programme, which continues to this day, targets young people between six months and 15 years old.

“Our target is a million youngsters, and we had hoped to make it by the end of March.

“Although we could not make it, we are satisfied with the progress made, and we will continue until we reach the million,” says CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

Measles is a contagious respiratory infection that causes a total body skin rash and flu-like symptoms.
