Suspect arrested for unlicensed firearm in Freedom Park

The Eldorado Park SAPS members attended to a scene of business robbery and attempted murder, at Morris Tavern in Freedom Park.

It is alleged by the complainant that three unknown males entered the premises, all of whom were brandishing firearms, and as a result of indiscriminately discharging these firearms, five patrons sustained gunshot injuries and were taken for medical treatment.

The suspects proceeded to rob the complainant at gunpoint and managed to flee with an undisclosed amount of cash.

In a separate incident that occurred on Monday April 10, the SAPS Gauteng Province Crime Intelligence Unit and the JMPD undercover Unit, arrested a 39-year-old male suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm during an operation, as a means of following up on information received from a registered informant.

This was in regards to a suspect who is allegedly involved in dealing with firearms and who also lends these unlicensed firearms to the offenders who allegedly commit street robberies around Freedom Park.

“After sufficient information and intelligence was gathered, the law enforcement members traced the suspect at his residence in Tjovitjo squatter camp in Freedom Park.

“The suspect was thereafter arrested and a z88 pistol without any ammunition was recovered at his residence,” explained Sergeant Roxanne Gibb, Eldorado Park police spokesperson.

The recovered firearm was sent for ballistic analysis for possible linkages to other offences that may have been committed using the said firearm.

Further leads regarding the involvement of the suspect with regard to the alleged business robbery and attempted murder at Morris Tavern are also under further investigation.
