Police officer shot and killed in Protea Glen

The Sergeant was murdered on March 12 when suspects opened fire outside his home.

A case of murder and attempted murder is being investigated by the Hawks after a 49-year-old SAPS officer was gunned down in Protea Glen Ext 35.

The officer who has been identified as a Sergeant attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit was murdered on March 12 when suspects opened fire outside his home.

It is reported that the Sgt had just parked his vehicle on the neighbour’s driveway after collecting his 16-year-old daughter and a neighbour from Park Station.

It is said that an unknown man fired shots at the officer, instantly killing him on the scene. According to reports, the neighbour sustained gunshot wounds on her lower body.

“A white sedan parked near the gate and the driver started shooting towards them.

“The Sgt was fatally wounded while his daughter and neighbour were taken to hospital for medical treatment on the gunshot,” said the police in a statement.

No one has been arrested yet but law enforcement agencies were working around the clock to find the suspects.
