The community organisation distributed 200 food parcels to the community in a bid to fight hunger and help those in need.

Even though the distributed parcels on Friday were vegetable packs, the organisation usually includes non-perishable foods and even cleaning supplies in their packs.

Sisterhood Foundation is known in Eldorado Park and surrounding areas for its feeding schemes which have helped hundreds of young and old locals avert hunger.

It is not only individual who have been benefitting from initiatives by Sisterhood Foundation, but even other community organisations have been getting support as well.

According to Alicia Solomons from Sisterhood Foundation, their aim is to distribute 250 food parcels every three months in the community.

“ATI Foundation sponsored Sisterhood with these 200 veggie packs,” explained Solomons.

“No specific area was targeted but we invited anyone within Eldos who is in need or less fortunate to register with us. Then we work through this database every time we receive a donation or get sponsored with food parcels.”

Solomons expressed words of appreciation to ATI Foundation and all volunteers for their support in making the Friday project a success.

The organisation has other projects in the pipeline aimed at developing the community of Eldos beyond distributing food parcels this year.

Sisterhood Foundation was founded in 2021 at the height of the pandemic when Solomons noticed that there was an urgent need to help young people in the community with sanitary towels and other personal hygiene items.

The team started with a Girls Care Pack Drive which benefited about 1000 girls in the community.

From then, the organisation has been involved in a number of community upliftment projects including Matric Dance Drives and Christmas in July.
