Model search for TV show in the works

International TV franchise, Undiscovered Global and a local production company Xtreme Creations from Protea Glen have partnered up in search of 35 models who will participate in a TV reality show that is in the works.

The tv show Undiscovered SA fashion runway will see aspiring models and fashion designers, working together through a series of challenges to reach the goal of being named the top model and top designer at the Grand Finale set to take place in September at the New York Fashion Week (NYFW).

“Undiscovered South Africa is a competition that searches for the next fashion icons of South Africa,” Founder of Xtreme Creations, Shaun Mphumelelo Baba, explains.

“Our mission is to encourage women to be comfortable in their own skin and break barriers and standards in the fashion industry, making fashion more inclusive of women of all sizes and ethnic backgrounds.”

According to Baba, the model search is open to individuals over 18 to 35 years-old.

“We want every type, every size, and every look. We are about being inclusive and redefining what the narrative of beauty standards that society, the media and broader modelling industry has always pushed. It is important for us to rewrite that narrative and this is the show for that,” he said.

As part of the scouting process, the selected group of models will undergo training from experts in the field before the production’s next phase of searching for local designers who will also be a part of the show.

Speaking more about the show Baba said, “Each designer will be given five models that will showcase the garments produced by the designers and every week there will be eliminations, leaving the best of the best to compete.

“At the end, the winning designer along with his/her models will travel to New York to compete with other designers from other competing countries.”

“While it is similar to other designer competitions, our show will primarily focus on South African style. We aim to capture the SA looks, feel and design. The photo shoots will pay homage to cultural sites, the lifestyle of our multi diversity.” he said.

The 13 episode reality show will run concurrently with other Undiscovered Global franchisees from 14 countries across the globe. It will broadcast on StarSat in over 20 countries throughout the African continent and via the Undiscovered Streaming Network.

“We have been working on this since 2022 and we are excited to bring this into a different audience. We are equally excited to unearth new faces, people who are hungry for opportunity, who are undiscovered and will make the most of it,” an excited Baba concluded.

The production for the actual TV show is set to begin shooting in the next two months should they meet the deadlines.
