Unlike normal beauty pageants, the Mrs eSoweto Pageant targets women between the ages 25 to 50 who are either engaged, married, divorced or widowed with tertiary qualifications and matric.

According to the founder and director of the pageant, Fikile Motaung, some women lose their self-esteem and confidence the minute they step into the stage of having their own families, the pageant was therefore created as a platform to remind them about their beauty and capabilities to make a difference in their communities.

“Mrs eSoweto is basically a matured woman who can be a mother figure to Soweto residents and that woman should have great interest in working with the community.

“Through the pageant, we are giving women back their voice while showing them that adulthood is just a phase, a women’s beauty is always at heart and does not have an expiry date.”

Before the actual event, the contestants were given a number of workshops which were meant to equip them with various skills for the big day.

This includes skills in modelling, public speaking and tips on how to start their own foundations and businesses.

“These are women who have to juggle their day-to-day jobs, being wives and mothers while raising the Mrs eSoweto tittles and crowns high because these are not just tittles, they can be used to open a number of opportunities and can be used to advocate for communities.”

About 100 women initially entered the competition, with nine making it to the final stage.

With challenges that came with planning the event, Motaung expressed heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders and sponsors that came on board to ensure that the event was a success, including Kryolan Professional Make-up, Nendila Travel and Explore, and Sky Washing Powder, to name a few.

“We are honoured and glad that the event was a great success and we wish the winners all the best with their future endeavours. We hope they will carry the vision of the pageant with them as they navigate their way through working with Soweto communities.”

This years Mrs eSoweto Pageant winners are Ncamisile Thipe as Mrs eSoweto, Pearl Muthivha as the First Runner-up, Zodwa Jiyose as the Second Runner-up and Nomkhosi Msomi as Mrs Personality.
