Soweto man sentenced to life for gruesome murder of his uncle

According to the SAPS, It is believed that a family feud may have led to the gruesome killing.

A 29 year-old male who killed and buried his uncle in an open veld in 2021 was handed down a life imprisonment sentence for the gruesome murder.

This comes after lengthy investigations by the police in Dobsonville which led to securing the sentence.

The accused, Mashamaite, was arrested for contravention of a protection order and through police investigation, it was discovered that prior to the arrest Mashamaite killed and dragged his uncle with a rubbish bin to an open veld where he buried his body.

The accused, through proper investigation, led police officials to the scene where he pointed out the location of the remains.

According to the SAPS, It is believed that a family feud may have led to the gruesome killing.

“On the day of the arrest, police were attending a normal missing person case when the family pointed out blood stains on the sofa plus the rubbish bin.

This raised questions to what had transpired. The investigation proceeded and led to an outstanding conviction by the investigating officer,” said Dobsonville Corporate Communications, Constable Vusi Thokwan.

As per the court judgment Mashamaite was convicted for three charges. Count one for murder which he will serve life imprisonment, count two for violating a corpse where he got a five year sentence and count three for defeating the course of justice also five year conviction.

Dobsonville acting Station Commander Colonel Lengau welcomed the conviction and applauded the members of the SAPS for the outstanding job on securing the conviction and further said the efforts done by members continue to put Dobsonville SAPS on the map.

He further urged the community to work with the police and urged them to report any criminal activities.
