Sea Rescue South Africa invite local clinics to a sports day in Dorothy Nyembe

Health care workers were grateful for the opportunity to be part of the games which provided them with an opportunity to exercise for the day.

Residents and local health care workers were invited to the World Heart Day awareness by the Sea Rescue South Africa (SRSA) team on October 14.

The event which took place at Dorothy Nyembe Park saw local clinic workers and members of the Girls and Boys United Academy take on each other head-on in the soccer and netball games.

Sea Rescue South Africa’s drowning prevention instructors, James Mphahlele, Linda Dalamba and Kenneth Gagela.

According to SRSA drowning prevention instructor, James Mphahlele, the day was aimed at educating residents about the importance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation as part of the World Heart Day 2022.

“World Heart Day is celebrated in October and we are here to provide information which we hope will help locals in their everyday lives, especially children,” Mphahlele said.

He added they are targeting youngsters, since they are usually the ones who play near places with water and might fall victims of drowning.

Kaizer Mabuyela from Itireleng Clinic expressed gratitude to SRSA for organising the campaign.

“As health care workers we spend our time serving the community and we hardly get time to exercise. The friendly match gave us that opportunity,” Mabuyela said.

Girls United Academy netball team.

Girls United Academy scored 16-2 against Itireleng and Dobsonville Clinic Netball Team in the second quarter and ended the match on high-note with a score of 29-10.

Boys United Academy won the soccer match with 5-0 against Itireleng and Dobsonville Clinic Soccer Team.
