Soweto affected by stage two water cuts

According to Johannesburg Water, the bulk supplier will restrict high demand customer meters in various parts of the city.

Soweto residents can expect to be affected by the implemented Johannesburg Water stage 2 water cuts.

The restriction on the Eikenhof pump station will affect supply to Chiawelo, Zondi, Doornkop, Powepark, Noordegesig, Braamfisherville, Protea Glen, Orlando Power station, and Diepkloof.

This follows the announcement by the City of Johannesburg, on Tuesday that due to increased water demand, its bulk supplier, Rand Water had resorted to implement stage 2 water restrictions.

It said the capacity of Rand Water has decreased from 52% to 38%.

According to Johannesburg Water, the bulk supplier will restrict high demand customer meters in various parts of the city.

The outcome is to reduce the current high consumption and restore capacity levels back to 60%.

Other pump stations which supply the Johannesburg water infrastructure will also affect areas supplied by the Zwartkopjes pump stations and Palmiet pump stations.

“Johannesburg Water urges customers to remain active partners in reducing the amount of water used in the city of Johannesburg. This will significantly assist in recovery of the affected reservoirs and tower,” a statment read.
