The former Democratic Alliance (DA) leader launched his political party, Build One SA (BOSA) to change the landscape of local independent candidates which will contest as an umbrella party in the coming general elections.

The new political party will be made of independent candidates and civic organisations across the country, already serving in their communities as elected representatives in parliament.

It is the party’s goal to get citizens to directly vote for their leaders outside of the traditional political party armour.Speaking at the launch, Maimane said a new South Africa is coming in 2024.

“Today is a significant day, to those who thought SA could never change, I am here to tell you that come 2024, a new South Africa is coming,” he said.

“I come from a generation of south Africans who know what happens in the battle against corruption, racism and extremism.

“I have known both defeat and I have known triumph but I am to tell you I still remain in the area.

“People ask me why I am coming back and I say I am here for more because this country can be best served,” he said to roaring cheers from the crowd.

“We strongly believe that we can build a parliament that is filled with the best leaders in this country and that is why henceforth I am not just standing for presidency but I want the best cabinet in 2024 that is made up of people from different places that can say they want to work for the people,” Maimane continued.

This is the first time Maimane will compete in the elections at the ballot box since he resigned as DA leader in 2019.The BOSA leader said his party would be championing towards building the country and strengthen the economy, job creation, and health care system.

These would be driven by a need to move away from an economy which does not work for its people, he told attendees.

“We want to drive entrepreneurial education in the country. The dream that I hold for this country is a dream upon which not only is our education is improving but an economy that will put a job in every home in this country.

“We want the economy of the township to be reinvigorated, by setting up capital so that business can be started in the township, and service the country, so that more can be done for the people of this country,” he said.

“That is not all, our priority is to also ensure citizens feel safe in our country so we will build a police service that will make sure we come after criminals.

We will also make sure that our clinics work by putting a health care plan together that ensures even from a primary level, clinics work for the people. I want the best doctors, nurses and teachers to be well rewarded and well paid so they can build this country.”

Maimane used his address to further lambast state capture and corruption in offices of high ranking leaders. He cited that his party would eradicate corruption and build “leaders who work for the people and get a president who is accountable to the people.”

“Now is the time for change, ensure that we have a government that is not only led by a cabinet that works but a government that is efficient,” he said.

“…we want all officials who take bribes to do their jobs, we are saying your days are numbers because 2024 when we eradicate corruption, we won’t just start with politicians, we will clean out the service so that it is efficient for the people.”

In 2020, Maimane launched the One SA movement as a community and activist driven movement that seeks to unite South Africans who want to see change. At the time, Maimane had said the movement would not be registered as a political party.
