Murder suspect caught with weapon in Eldorado Park

The 35-year-old male who was declared deceased at the scene. Cartridges that were found on the scene were taken for further investigation purposes.

On September 12 at approximately 9.45am, members of Eldorado Park SAPS Vispol unit were conducting their regular patrol duties around hotspot areas in Extension 4, Milnerton Street in Eldorado Park.

Whilst patrolling, the members heard gunshots near Wilmot Court (Varke jard) in Heathfield Crescent. They thereafter proceeded to where the shooting was taking place. As the members were turning into Brandvlei Street, they noticed a champagne in colour Audi A3 idling at the corner of Heathfield and Brandvlei Street.

“As the members stopped behind the Audi A3, a male came running towards the vehicle from Heathfield Crescent and jumped into the passenger seat and the vehicle drove off,” explained Sergeant Roxanne Gibb.

The members then gave chase after the vehicle and managed to apprehend the suspect who was in possession of a 9mm Pistol with four live rounds along Mahonie Crescent in Extension 3.

The SAPS members thereafter proceeded to Eldorado Park Police Station where the suspect was detained for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and discharging a firearm in a municipal area.

“A few minutes after detaining the suspect, police attended to a scene where a deceased body was found lying between the flats at Wilmot Court with multiple gunshot wounds.

“It was discovered that the very same suspect detained for the possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and discharging a firearm is allegedly the culprit in the murder,” added Gibb.

The victim was a 35-year-old male who was declared deceased at the scene. Cartridges that were found on the scene were taken for further investigation purposes.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the deceased victim was attending court for various cases.

A further charge of murder was added to the other charges of the 30-year-old suspect. He is expected to appear before the respective court during the course of the week.

The Station Commander, Brigadier Maluleke commended the swift response by the SAPS Vispol unit members.

He further emphasised that the arrest of the suspect was a result of vigilance displayed by the dedicated members.

The motive for the murder is currently unknown and under further investigation.
