Numerous stakeholders engage the COJ in Eldos

Over 100 residents from Eldorado Park attended the stakeholder engagement meeting with the Department of Economic Development.

The Greater Eldorado Park Youth Innovation Hub previously known as the Greater Eldorado Park Youth Skills Development Centre hosted a stakeholder engagement in partnership with the City of Johannesburg.

The engagement took place on September 2 in Eldorado Park, Extension 4 where agents from the Department of Economic Development provided residents with information on forming cooperatives.

Oscar Mthembu was one of the agents from COJ who presented the opportunities available for business-minded residents.

Phyllis Vilakazi who is the chairperson of the hub said, “All of them came ready to give us information on cooperatives and how to go about it.

“SARS was also part of this programme where they gave people the information they need to start their own businesses. We are focusing on women and youth.”

She further added, “People are lacking the knowledge or they are unaware of business opportunities that are available to them.

“They also don’t understand that they can to turn their talents into business ventures. That is some of the information that we are sharing with them.”

The Department of Economic Development has also rolled out Opportunity Centres across the city to provide integrated services to support SMMEs in line with COJ’s objectives to grow the economy and create jobs.

In a flyer handed out at the engagement, it was stated that one of these centres will be opening in Eldorado Park at the Civic Centre on Link Road.

General business information and guidance, company registrations, business plans training sessions, facility usage, business support and Wi-Fi will all be made freely available for those who are interested.

Each agent who was present at the engagement provided their contact details to the residents who would like to find out more about the opportunities in the different sectors.
