Eldorado community mourn the death of shot victims

According to police, it is alleged by witnesses that the victim was walking when six males approached him and started shooting at him.

A body of a man with multiple gunshot wounds was found by the police on August 22 in Kremetart Street, Eldorado Park.

According to Sergeant Roxanne Gibb, it is alleged by witnesses that the victim was walking when six males approached him and started shooting at him.

The victim then ran but eventually fell and the suspects thereafter fled the scene on foot.

“As a result of the shooting, the victim was declared deceased at the scene and a total of 39 spent cartridges were found. A case of murder is currently under investigation,” said Gibb.

In another shooting which took place the next day, six victims between the ages of 19 and 21 years old were shot in Heathfield Crescent, Extension 4, (Varkejard).

Gibb explained that the youngsters were allegedly caught in the crossfire and were immediately taken to hospital for medical attention.

“Upon investigation, a total of 17 spent cartridges were recovered at the crime scene. Further investigation with regards to the brutal incident and the whereabouts of the suspects are currently under investigation,” said Gibb.

Later, one of the victims succumbed to his injuries.The community of Eldorado Park then came together on Sunday, August 28 to hold a memorial service for the victim at Willowmore Court Flats, in Extension 4.

Ward Cllr Juwairiya Kaldine was part of the programme as well as SAPS, Gangs to Grace, GEPM Prayer Network, Guns Down and the Community Policing Forum (CPF).

A yellow ribbon tree ceremony was held as well as a dove releasing ceremony with the loved ones of the victim as well as residents from the community at large.

“I have a message for SAPS today. Start policing our streets. We are begging and pleading with you. There is a war in Eldorado Park Ward 18, police these streets. We are praying for you and you need to keep us safe.

“Keep our youth safe, stop telling us to come to the police station or that we must call 10111. These boys were innocent and they were planning a youth event,” said Cllr Kaldine at the memorial service.

The Eldorado Park CPF also appealed to parents to monitor their children and their whereabouts and advised that the youth should avoid loitering in groups and avoid being outdoors after sunset.

SAPS is appealing to anyone with any information regarding the aliases and whereabouts of the wanted suspects, to urgently contact the SAPS Crime Stop Hotline on 08600 10111 or alternatively the Eldorado Park SAPS on 011 946 0300.
