City of Joburg Speaker inducts three new Councillors

Cllr Jainoodeen Zahid, Cllr Christopher Mohlala and Cllr Elmari Attebury were sworn in in the Speaker’s exco boardroom in accordance with Rule 10 (2) of the Standing Rules and Orders of Council.

Only when a councillor has been officially sworn in can they participate in the official business of Council.

The rules make provision for the Speaker and a judicial officer to make an oath to God or an affirmation to the republic for councillors to be officially inducted.

Cllr Da Gama welcomed the Whip of Council, Cllr Tyrell Myers and Leader and Whip of the ActionSA Caucus and MMC for Transport, Cllr Funzi Ngobeni and Cllr Marcel Courtiers.

Among the guests were John Moodey, the National Director of Operations and fellow councillors, Cllr Mark Lebatlang, Cllr Nobuhle Mthembu, Cllr Mphumi Edwards and Cllr Esmi Liebenberg.

The Speaker reminded all councillors present of the South African Local Government Association workshop scheduled for later in the day.

“It is equally important that councillors attend these briefings as there is always useful information and support to be provided at these workshops,” said Cllr Da Gama.
