According to Abels, the campaign was started after a few residents contacted her for help to assist a 37-year-old woman who was recently discharged from hospital.

Abels shared that the woman had not eaten for seven days which resulted in her being hospitalised.

“This broke my heart to the core. Yes, life is tough for many but who can really say that they went an entire week without eating? As I got to know the woman, I noticed that she wore the same clothes.

“I then asked for assistance from people on Facebook and managed to get six women involved in this campaign. We got clothes and shoes for her as well as a qualified hairstylist who volunteered to do her hair and nails,” explained Abels.

The women who are part of the campaign also created a hygiene pack which consisted of roll-on, pads, soap, a face cloth, toothbrush, lotion and toothpaste. Abels added that they are currently seeking counselling for the woman.

“God has been amazing. So many beautiful ladies have contacted me to assist in making a change in a woman’s life,” said Abels.

The campaign aims to assist women who have lost themselves due to prior addictions, toxic relationships and financial battles.

The women behind the One woman at a time campaign would like to rebuild other women’s self-love and confidence.

“We are saying let’s fix one woman at a time. Let’s put those crowns back where they belong. We might not have brand new clothes but trust me the makeovers will let a woman find her inner beauty once again,” concluded Abels.
