The church of Nazarene Eldorado Park held Vacation Bible School (VBS) during the school holidays. VBS is about teaching the word of God to children in the community, regardless of religious affiliation.

This year the theme was “The full Armor of God” to tell the children that there are other alternatives to drugs and other forms of worldly attack.
The aim of VBS is to implement these teachings at an early age so that children have a solid foundation when they are facing worldly challenges.
It is a strategy to keep youngsters off the streets for at least one week by giving them something positive to do. The kids are also nourished with a meal and snacks to take home with them.
“VBS has been part of our Children’s Ministries programme for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately from 2020 to 2021 we could not have it due to Covid regulations, but we can thank God that 2022 is a new beginning for us. It is our way of reaching out to children in the community.
The bible says, ‘Go out and make disciples of all nations.’ So often this only gets extended to adults and the kids get left behind.

This is our church’s way of ensuring the kids get included as well,” said Elaan Jacobs, the head of Sunday school.
Children met at church at about 8:00 am and walked through the community of Eldorado Park chanting VBS songs to draw the attention of other children to join them every day.
The numbers grew as the week went on.
The children were split into their school grades which were from Grade R to Grade 8 and above. Each grade had a Sunday school teacher with volunteer teachers to assist.
Every day the children learned something new about the Armor of God and had arts and craft as well.
