Mercy Slaffa from Bridge Builders explained that their organisation had an event for Youth Day and decided to have one for Mandela Day because these days are important to celebrate for the children.

“Extension 8 is one of the areas in our community where there really is a need.

“The basis of our organisation is to impact, develop and educate the youth. Our plan in future is to have more educational programmes but we do want to reach the community now and here,” said Slaffa.

Barbers from Legends Barbershop were also there to cut the boys hair so that they look good for school which started the next day. The girls who attended were given sanitary packs.

“I never thought that a haircut or a pack of sanitary pads could make such a difference in a child’s life, but it really does,” added Slaffa.

Bridge Builders would like to thank the following sponsors of the day: Abafazi FAM, The Legendary Barbershop, Ronelle Johnson, Nathley Blignaut, Adrian Blignaut, Avian Slaffa, Robert Opperman, Chairmaine Carelse, Kirk Kruger, Bernice Louw and Four Brothers (Ext 9).

The children spent their Mandela Day dancing, laughing, playing games, eating a delicious lunch and they were treated to some party packs.
