Boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 16 years old attended the coaching clinic. It was facilitated by ex-PSL players such as Fabian McCarthy, Matthew Booth, Jabulani Mendu, Joseph Makhanya, Aubrey Vilakazi, Jermaine Christian, Jamie Birds, Rene McCarthy and Edward Williams.

The ex-PSL players were invited to motivate children and to get them involved in playing soccer.

This clinic was to keep the children occupied with positivity and encourage them to work hard so that they play professional football one day.

Newly elected chairperson for the EPLFA, Jerome Stevens said, “It takes a community to raise a child and that’s what I want to be part of.”

The coaches of the soccer teams in Eldorado Park spent an hour gaining knowledge and guidance on how to interact with the children, how to speak to them and motivate them when they are out on the field playing and training.

Lynn Lawrence, treasurer for the EPLFA spoke about the dangers of having children roaming the streets with nothing to do which often leads them to getting involved with the wrong things.

The EPLFA’s vision is to reduce the chances of children getting involved in substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and any other kind of trouble.

The players engaged well with the children while training them, and the children were very welcoming of the session and did exactly what they were told while having fun and learning.

Booth said, “This is where we have to do our work.

“This is where we have to roll up our sleeves and offer organized safe football coached by knowledgeable coaches.

“If we can do that, we can build a bigger pool of talent.

”The sponsors for the day were: Carol Paton, Techno Mobile, Fabian McCarthy, Park Bakery, and Sir Juice.
