“As ActionSA, we are going to make sure that there’s compensation for this family because this is the negligence of the City of Joburg. We know that money is not going to bring back that child but a six year old has been robbed of his future,” said Mashaba.

After meeting the family privately, Mashaba joined residents at the scene where six year old Kaya fell into a manhole for a short candlelight prayer.

He said it was sad that instead of commemorating Youth Day, the people of Dlamini and the Magadla Family are going through such a difficult time.

While the family and the whole community are hoping for the best by EMS and the SAPS.

Khaya fell into a manhole while playing with his friends on Sunday this past weekend. The manhole has since been covered by the City.

Mashaba expressed concerns over delays in finding him.

“We are saying they must put every effort in finding this boy. If the City doesn’t have enough resources to retrieve this boy, then let them go get the private sector. I can tell you, it wouldn’t take 24 hours for white people to find this boy,” said Mashaba.

He went on to say he will talk to MMC for Public Safety, David Tembe about getting the private sector to help.
