Nando’s Basha in Casa Soweto edition was the first of many events by the brand combining the arts, food and youthful conversations in a laid back setting. The popup events also serve as a build up to this year’s Basha Uhuru Festival, a creative melting pot of design, music and the arts in general.

Nontobeko Sibiya from Nando’s said the aim of Basha in Casa is to give emerging artists a platform to showcase their talent while celebrating Youth Month in a creative way.

“Not only does it showcase local creative talent, but it also gives fun lovers a very rounded experience of food, art and music coming together to delight ones senses,” explained Sibiya.

The Soweto edition of Basha in Casa was the first one and there will be more coming to other areas as well.

Artists who took to the stage at Maponya Mall included Wena Wedwa and Aymos. Accompanied by their bands, they serenaded the audience with some live smooth tunes. According to Sibiya, Nando’s has a partnership with Bridges For Music Academy and they reached out to them to get artists to perform at Basha in Casa.

Soweto was the first township to be selected to host such a musical showase because of its vibrant Sunday party culture and the history it holds. “It’s also Youth Month and we know our history and how Soweto taps in to that history very richly. Launching in this space and environment makes a lot of sense,” said Sibiya.

Basha in Casa really brought a mellow and chilled Sunday afternoon vibe to Maponya Mall with revellers enjoying sundowners together with good food and good live music.
