Search efforts underway for 6-year-old Dlamini boy

The search for the boy started on Monday (13 June) with teams covering most of the all the areas along the manhole.

The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services Rescue Teams, Joburg Water and SAPS Water Wing are on their second morning of searching for a 6 year old boy in Dlamini 1, Soweto.

According to a report from Robert Mulaudzi, Spokesperson City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS), the six year old boy was reported missing by family on Sunday afternoon after he slipped and fell into a manhole.

The search for the boy started yesterday at 11am with teams covering most of the all the area along the manhole.

Mulaudzi shared that after careful considerations about the visibility and safety of the rescuers the search was called off at around 6pm yesterday and is said to have resumed this morning at 8am.

“Residents are urged to continue to monitor young children to stay away from this manholes and drainage system in order to prevent incidents like this one,” continued Mulaudzi.
