The donation in association with Power Fashion Stores and Carst and Walker SA donated tons of boxes of clothes, shoes and blankets to be transported via Post Office.

The initiative by the cash-strapped institute was launched immediately after the floods across all the Post Office in the Soweto region to allow individuals who wished to donate could do so at their facilities.

Daniel Boshomane, founder of the Pelican Light Foundation said his organisation was launched with the hope of uplifting the community.

“We started our organisation in 2021, almost seven months ago to assist Diepkloof and surrounding areas with resources and means for survival.

“We started because we noticed a number of people struggling and when we check, it was not getting any easier for our people. Since we launched, we have been able to assist between 900 and 1200 people in various sectors,” Boshomane said

He explained that the donation was part of an on-going campaign launched following the devastating floods in KZN two months ago.

Cwenga Mazibuko, Queen Sebitlo, Karabo Ngwenya, Lerato Thiyo and Daniel Boshomane at the Diepkloof Post Office.

“People lost all their belongings in a blink of an eye. We could not just stand by and watch. We are in the winter season and we thought of the people who lost everything.

“Through the campaign, we gather clothes from our community but we have also partnered with organisations that have come on board to assist us.

“As you see we have seven boxes filled with items and we urge the community to continue to extend help.”

The donated clothes, will be transported to KZN where on arrival will be delivered to a designated donation centre and distributed to various communities who remain affected.

Lerato Thiyo, from Post Office who was present at the donation also thanked the Diepkloof community who she said has been playing a massive role in ensuring boxes leave for KZN every month.

“We started this campaign for flood victims to help our sister province through this difficult time. We are glad to see the community and such organisations stepping forward to ensure that all help is directed to those who have been affected,” Tsoiyi said.

Manager of Power Fashion, Cwenga Mazibuko said, “We command the working that Daniel is doing in the community and we felt the need to join in and assist our people in KZN.

“Many of the affected communities are still without basic needs, this is just the little we could do. We pray this goes well, and has a reaching impact on those who have been affected.”

Mazibuko committed to keeping in touch with Boshomane adding that the clothing store was planning to engage with more Power Stores in Soweto to come on board and see how they can contribute towards the cause.
