Sowetans bid farewell to Salone Ngobeza

Different stakeholders from the City of Johannesburg gathered at Dlamini Multipurpose Centre to honour, celebrate and bid farewell to Salome Ngobeza.

Different stakeholders from the City of Johannesburg gathered at Dlamini Multipurpose Centre last Thursday to honour, celebrate and bid farewell to Salome Ngobeza.

Ngobeza who served as a Regional Director of Region D in the City of Johannesburg for more than 15 years was described as an exceptional and selfless leader.

After serving excellently for many years, Ngobeza met her untimely death on May 08, after a battling sickness.

Mourners came out in numbers.

As tributes poured in during the memorial service, speakers described Ngobeza as a leader who always had their backs, a leader who always delivered and served the community selflessly.

Speakers said Ngobeza was a leader who led from the front as she worked on the ground during the service delivery programmes, wearing overalls and doing the dirty work.

“Ngobeza was a very active, enthusiastic and a loving person who understood the brief and the reason why she was running such a huge region. She was unmatched, she never had limits and she helped everybody.

“We need to continue serving the City as she would want us to,” said acting Regional Director of Region D, Lali Mohlabane.

Adding to the tributes, Rosemarie Theron of CRUM Man support said, “She was an exceptional leader who led by example.

She always put everything and everybody else in front before herself. She went beyond her duties and never avoided problems but faced them head on. She might be gone from our sight but never from our hearts.”

A bitter sweet moment for mourners.

Speaking on behalf of the Department of Social Development, Moses Demeshane made a remark that the greatest highlight of working with RD was when she would be requested to speak in isiZulu knowing her inability to do so.

Ngobeza will be missed for her exceptional service and her ability to manage one of the biggest regions in Johannesburg which consists of 38 wards.She was laid to rest on Saturday, May 14. The service was held at Saint John, Florida, Roodepoort.
