A holistic approach to recovery

Therapy goes a long way in achieving mental and physical recovery. What type of recovery options are available at White River Manor?

Holistic approaches are considered by South African rehab interventions as a way to better attend to both clients’ psychological and physical needs. Holistic therapy focuses on a person’s overall well-being while treating physical addiction and withdrawal symptoms. It is for this reason that each client’s treatment at White River Manor is tailored to their specific needs and therapeutic requirements. This holistic programme incorporates the ideal mix of therapeutic techniques and treatments to ensure deep transformational, healing and a life-changing experience.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy consists of daily one-on-one sessions with a professional therapist dedicated to your recovery who adheres to the strictest confidentiality standards to ensure a high level of trust. To ensure the best long-term results, a combination of therapeutic techniques and treatments are used, including:

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) which is is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy.

DBT is advanced psychotherapy which is frequently used to treat dual diagnoses. DBT has been successfully used to help people with emotional regulation, interpersonal conflict and self-destructive behaviour.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a type of psychotherapy which is used for the treatment of addiction, anxiety, phobias, depression and sleep disorders. The focus of CBT is on the present moment, goal-setting, and understanding the relationship between human thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

Mindfulness Therapy

Mindfulness is a way of becoming more aware of ourselves and our surroundings. We can learn to pay more attention to the present moment by using mindfulness techniques, which allow us to observe our thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations in a non-judgmental manner.

Trauma-Specific Therapy (TST)

TST is based on an understanding of the link between a traumatic experience and our emotional and behavioural reactions to it. A therapist will guide you through how trauma is affecting your mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being in the long run and use a combination of approaches to address your trauma-related symptoms and substance abuse.

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)

SFT focuses on current and future circumstances, identifying solutions to assist people in moving forward as quickly as possible. It is goal-directed and future-oriented. Harmful behaviours are challenged and negative beliefs are reframed into rational thoughts through honest self-evaluation.

EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR therapy focuses directly on memories, rather than analysing and altering the emotions, thoughts and physical sensations that can arise as a result of traumatic experiences. EMDR stimulates the brain to address and work through unhealed memories in order to return to normal, adaptive and healthy processing.

Art and Music Therapy

Music and art therapy are extremely therapeutic and beneficial to those who have difficulty expressing their feelings.

Adult-Child Therapy

This therapy is designed to help adults to deal with childhood-related feelings of depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and shame. Healing from childhood trauma as an adult requires a healthy flow and processing of distressing emotions.

Spiritual / Pastoral Counselling

A certified pastoral counsellor, who is a mental health professional with extensive religious and theological training, can provide pastoral or spiritual counselling free of judgment, allowing you to ask for forgiveness and reconcile your actions with your spiritual values.

Group Therapy

Group Therapy is a dynamic opportunity that comes in a variety of formats, ranging from intellectually stimulating didactic lectures to therapeutic themes and specialized topic groups, all of which are carefully facilitated by a professional therapist.

Family Therapy

When family and close friends are involved in the recovery process, it is significantly more effective in treating dependency and dual diagnosis. This is handled with the utmost discretion, and Family Therapy is only used with your permission and when you are ready.

Support and Aftercare

A reliable support structure will help you maintain motivation and momentum as you return to everyday life, depending on your specific needs and issues. Recovery is a proactive way of life that aims to help you manage negative thoughts and emotions that can lead to self-destructive behaviour.
