All protocols in order at Brighton Beach Senior Primary

A dedicated team of staff have ensured that school runs like a well-oiled machine according to the prescribed Covid-19 safety and prevention protocols.

THE Grade 7 learners of Brighton Beach Senior Primary School have been hard at work after the school reopened on Monday, 8 June.

A dedicated team of staff have ensured that school runs like a well-oiled machine according to the prescribed Covid-19 safety and prevention protocols. Upon arriving at the school premises, learners are guided by teachers who ensure social distancing from the gate and taken along to the screening station to get their temperature checked. From there it’s off to the first round of hand sanitising, followed by shoe sanitising and proceed to the school steps where they are seated one metre apart on under the watchful eye of teachers, before lining up for a second round of sanitising as they enter the classroom for their first lesson of the day.

General Assistant Bongani Manukuza sanitises outside the school hall.

Hygiene and safety checks and controls are done throughout the day in classrooms, toilets and all over the building. The staff room has been moved to the more spacious hall and there is also a designated isolation room should anyone feel ill or show symptoms.

Brighton Beach Senior Primary acting principal, Sandy Nadesan reminds learners and staff to keep their hands germ free by sanitising regularly throughout the day.

Acting principal, Sandy Nadesan, said that despite the mixed emotions, they were very excited to welcome the learners back to school. “These are uncharted waters that we are treading in, however the team work and team spirit that exists at Brighton Beach, made it possible to put everything together and we were more than ready to re-open. We are glad to be back to structure because without it, there has been so much uncertainty. The learners have also taken to the new normal and are adjusting so well, it is unbelievable. I’m so proud of everyone. We have all protocols in place as instructed by the health department. Special thanks go to Ms Shrader , Ms Miles, office staff, cleaning staff and everyone who played a role in the planning for school to resume ,” she said, adding that 84 per cent of Grade 7 learners had returned back to school.

Grade 7 learner, Chaz Hansen said that being back at school wasn’t as risky as he thought it would be. “Our teachers have been very good with sanitizing throughout the day. I am very happy to be back. I feel pretty safe being at school. I just hope that we won’t have any Covid-19 cases because we might have to close down and my parents said that they wouldn’t allow me back due to the risk.”

The staff’s message to learners who are still at home: “Brighton Beach Senior Primary is safe for you to return, teaching and learning is carrying on. It is so wonderful to be back and we miss you.”
