There are various river crossings (so take your hiking pole) with sights of indigenous bush and grasslands. Enjoy snacks at cascades and drinks afterwards at Waxy O’Connor’s. There is a R30 donation to the conservancy. Meet at 1.45pm at Palmiet Nature Reserve off Old New Germany Road in Westville.

On Sunday, 3 March hikers will head out to Kloof Beacon at Krantzkloof Nature Reserve (KKNR) with hike leader Abdullah Dada (call on 084-478-6778).

This grade three/moderate 12km hike also carries a vertigo warning as hikers traipse through the forest and up to the Lingwood Trig beacon for views towards Umhlanga and inland towards the Drakensberg. The return will be back along the river. Enjoy drinks at Tina’s afterwards. Park fees are R40. Meet in time for a 8am start at the KKNR main car park at 152 Kloof Falls Road.
