Prepare your nose for spring

Beat spring time allergies with these tips.

For millions, spring time means new beginnings, cute dresses and flowers. For a small group it means seasonal allergies such as hayfever, runny noses and eyes and overall an uncomfortable springtime. But there are ways to ease your allergies and still enjoy the beauty of spring.

According to medical site webmd, The biggest spring allergy trigger is pollen. Trees, grasses, and weeds release these tiny grains into the air to fertilise other plants. Sometimes these tiny grains confuse our nostrils as plants and ram themselves up our snozzles.  This causes the body to go AWOL. The immune system mistakenly sees the pollen as a danger and releases antibodies that attack the allergens. That leads to the release of chemicals called histamines into the blood. Histamines trigger the runny nose, itchy eyes, and other symptoms that are all too familiar if you have allergies.

So how do we prevent an attack?

Over-the-counter drugs: Antihistamines counterattack the triggers and reduces the sneezing, coughing and running.

EAT: Eat spicy foods to loosen the mucus in your sinus and clear it up. Eat onions, nature’s super food to minimise the occurrence of watery or itchy eyes, asthma and hay fever

Vitamin C: Stock up on your citrus. The consumption of these fruits daily prevents the formation of histamine, the main cause of allergies.

Diet don’ts: There are certain foods that can triggers an allergy or sinus attack. It is best to stay away from diary which can worsen with environmental allergies.
