Get creative and celebrate the art of photography

Have some creative fun with your camera.

Get your camera out and get creative.

People have been using photographs to express themselves and the world around for centuries.

Whether you enjoy snapping pictures of landscapes, animals, people, objects or anything at all, it is the emotion that photos elicit that is important.

The history of the camera began with the camera obscura – whereby light travels through a pinhole and projects images upside down on a surface. Ancient civilisations used these to draw and map images.

French inventor, Nicéphore Niépce was the first person to take a photograph in the 1820s, titled View from the Window at Le Gras.

“It took eight hours for the image to be fully exposed. Capturing a long-lasting image required a complex and methodical chemical process – without immediate treatment, the image would be lost,” according to www.visiononline.org

Nowadays, we take for granted how easy it is to grab our mobile phone, snap a pic, add a filter and post it for all the world to see.

Start a project – take a photo a day, or sort through some old images you took and combine them into a project. You could use the month to learn more about photography or improve your skills.
