TUESDAY, 23 JANUARY: The January meeting of the Port Natal branch of the World Ship Society takes place at the Royal Natal Yacht Club at 5pm for 5.30pm. Guest speaker Dr John Buchan will give his presentation entitled ‘A history of Durban’s flying boat service’. There is no admission fee to attend and all are welcome. SATURDAY, 27 JANUARY: Mountain Backpackers Club hikes the African fish eagle trail with sightings of birdlife guaranteed, as they walk through the Beachwood mangroves and along the North bank of the Umgeni River. Thos who want to join in should meet at Green Hub Durban at 8am to leave at 8.15am. Rain stops play. Take cash for tea at Springfield SPCA which is about halfway. Confirm if you’ll be joining this walk by 26 January by calling hike leader Heidi Cox on 082-706-4283. This 13km hike is graded two.

SATURDAY, 27 JANUARY: Support the SPCA’s monthly booksale outside the Bluff Superspar, Bluff Road from 7.30am to noon. Any donations of books and household goods would be much appreciated.

MONDAY, 29 JANUARY: Yellowwood Park Women’s Institute meets for the first meeting of 2018 at the bowling club, at 7pm. The WI hopes to see all members, new members and many friends and visitors for its usual fun evening. Do not forget to take along something for the ‘bring and bob’ table.

TUESDAY, 6 FEBRUARY: Stainbank Womens Institute (WI) will be meet for the first meeting of the year at the Yellowwood Park Civic Centre at 9am for 9.30am. We look forward to seeing all members and new members and many friends and visitors. Do not forget the animal charity this month which really needs your help to assist in the very many abandoned animals which are now in our area.

SUNDAY, 28 FEBRUARY: Mountain Backpackers’ Club day hike in the Howick area. “The Ambers” – hike in extended area. Lovely views around Howick and surrounding areas, plenty of game and bird life. Combined hike with other clubs. Maximum 12 members, first come first served. Last booking by Wednesday, 24 January. Costs R20 per person. This 26km hike is graded two plus. SUNDAY, 18 FEBRUARY: Mountain Backpackers’ Club explore the Howick area: Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve. Lovely local 15km day hike in a beautiful area – great views and chance to see plenty of game and bird life. Several trail variations. As it can be hot this time of year we will keep to high ground. HEADLINE: Join up with TAFTA Bluff

TAFTA Bluff meets every Monday at 9.30am at Bluff Methodist Church, on the corner of Westley and Pearce roads.

All seniors over 55 years of age, both men and women, are welcome to join this fun group.
