SATURDAY, 20 MAY: South African Writers’ Circle monthly meeting takes place at Westville library’s room G4 from 11am. Join in to see what is on offer. During the course of the year, a series entitled Nuts and Bolts of Writing is presented at interactive sessions. This month it will be Nuts and Bolts of Writing: Point of View, conducted by Derek Griffin. A book auction will also be held. Maybe there is something for you? Non-members are very welcome. FRIDAY to SUNDAY, 26 to 28 MAY: Mountain Backpackers Club enjoys guided day hikes at Mhlopeni Nature Reserve near Greytown. At this SA natural heritage site, the weather may plummet to 0 degrees, so wrap up warm. Self-catering camp costs R150 per person and own tent costs R80 per person. Accommodation is available. Guided hikes on Saturday and Sunday will take in the beautiful bushveld, game and prolific birdlife. Pre-booking and payment is essential. SATURDAY, 27 MAY: Dutch Reformed Church, Fynnland hosts a fete and craft market from 7am until noon at the church hall, 303 Lighthouse Road, Bluff. Breakfast will start at 7am. Pancakes, puddings, vetkoek, home baked cakes/bread and lovely handmade crafts will be for sale.

 

 

SUNDAY, 28 MAY: Fynnland Combined Sports Club hold a flea/craft market on from noon until 5pm. There will be live music with Paul and company. Bookings for lunch can be done through Yvonne on 083-730-8003. Tables are R100 in cash or products. Call Carol on 031-466-2010 during office hours to book a table.

 

 

MONDAY, 29 MAY: The Botanical Society of SA KZN coastal branch hosts a fundraising, educational talk at the Durban Botanic Gardens Visitors Centre from 6pm where Hillcrest veterinarian Dr Mike Lowry is due to speak.

Dr Lowry is writing a book about the effects of agricultural chemicals on animals, humans and the environment. Gardeners, pet owners, animal health practitioners and those involved in alien eradication should hear this enlightening talk. Entrance costs R40 for members, R60 non-members and R30 for students. TUESDAY, 30 MAY: Fynnland Combined Sports Club fundraising evening at Grand Rapids Spur from 6pm to 9pm. Support is urged as the club will be given a percentage of the takings during that time, to help it replace the desperately needed hall roof.
