FRIDAY, 3 MARCH: All women are invited to join the 87th celebratory observance of the Women’s Day of Prayer at St George’s Presbyterian Church, corner of Admiral and Welfreer Roads at 10am. Refreshments will be served after the service. For more details call Cindy Willis on 031-466-2012.

FRIDAY, 3 MARCH: A Women’s World Day of Prayer service will be hosted by Sacred Heart Catholic Church on the corner of Montclair and Kenyon Howden Road. Refreshments will be served in the hall at 9am and the service will follow in the church at 10am. Contact the parish office on 031-469-0865.

SATURDAY, 4 MARCH: Birdlife will enjoy the Port Natal Burman Bush trail from 7am with Elena Russell. Take along a picnic tea and chairs. Confirm attendance, meeting time and place by calling 031-705-2902 or email elenarussell@telkomsa.net.

SATURDAY, 4 MARCH: KZN Bird Club forum meeting from 8.15am at Wessa Umgeni Valley in Howick. Saturday will focus on conservation that impacts on birds in the province. On Sunday, the business of the forum and the clubs is on the agenda. All are welcome. Call Lesley Frescura on 083-231-3408.

SATURDAY, 4 MARCH: Fynnland Combined Sports Club will host a rugby day with rugby games all day, starting with the Sharks at 10.45am. There will be wine and shooter specials, raffles and predict a scores. Bunny chows and other food will be on sale.

WEDNESDAY, 8 MARCH: Rosewood Senior Citizens Club next meets at 9am at the Montclair recreational hall. Senior members are encouraged to join the club. Meals will be served. For more information contact Mr Pillay on 031-462-9582.

SUNDAY, 12 MARCH: Mountain Backpackers Club 15km day hike at Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve, Howick area. This hike offers great views and plenty of game and bird watching. Cost R30 per person. Last booking 8 March. Call Keith Ashton on 033-239-5023 or email keimarg@iuncapped.co.za.

THURSDAY, 23 MARCH: Fynnland Combined Sports Club holds its annual AGM on at 7pm at the club. All members are asked to attend.

FRIDAY to SUNDAY, 26 to 28 MARCH: Mountain Backpackers Club enjoys guided day hikes at Mhlopeni Nature Reserve near Greytown. At this SA natural heritage site, the weather may plummet to 0 degrees, so wrap up warm. Self-catering camp costs R150 per person and own tent costs R80 per person. Accommodation is available. Guided hikes on Saturday and Sunday will take in the beautiful bushveld, game and prolific birdlife. Pre-booking and payment is essential. SUNDAY, 23 APRIL: KZN coastal branch of the Botanical Society of South Africa presents an unique half day morning and afternoon walk outing with tree expert and author, Richard Boon in the Umlalazi Nature Reserve at Mtunzini. Charges will include entrance fees, a finger lunch at Charles and Julia Botha’s cottage, personal attention with tree identification by an eminent expert, autographed copies of Pooley’s Trees of Eastern South Africa at a specially reduced price.
