SATURDAY, 1 OCTOBER: Birdlife Port Natal pays a visit to Alverstone with Elena Russell at 6am. Confirm attendance, meeting time and place. Entrance fee R20. Enjoy a picnic tea in the boma afterwards. Contact Elena Russell on 031-705-2902.

MONDAY, 3 OCTOBER: Annual general meeting of the Yellowwood Park Ratepayers Association takes place in Yellowwood Park Civic Centre from 6.30pm to elect committee members. All ratepayers and residents are invited.

TUESDAY, 11 OCTOBER: Nick Evans will talk about snakes and birds at a Birdlife Port Natal meeting at 9.30am for 10am at Kranzkloof Interpretive Centre.

THURSDAY, 13 OCTOBER: KwaZulu-Natal branch of the South African Military History Society meets at 7pm for 7.30pm at the Murray Lecture Theatre, Department of Civil Engineering, University of KwaZulu-Natal Howard College campus. There will be two talks – the 20 minute Darrell Hall Memorial Lecture: ‘WW2 Arctic Convoys of William Foster’ by Clyde Foster and the main talk: ‘Isis’ by Maj Peter Williams. SATURDAY, 29 OCTOBER: Elim Gemeenskap Kerk, 87 Tara Road, Bluff hosts a ‘Country and Western’ day from 2pm to 5pm. Tuck into the mixed potjies, as well as pancakes, desserts and other snacks. Country and Western star, Sarah-Lee Johnson will be entertaining with her unique voice from 2pm to 3pm. Thereafter, those present can learn how to line dance.
