Pensioner dies in Isipingo fire

Previous injuries made movement difficult and it is believed he could not escape the fire in time.

AN elderly man, unable to escape a blaze in Isipingo, burnt to death on the afternoon of Saturday, 4 June.

ER24 paramedics responded to an inferno at a block of flats in Citrus Road where they found a 76-year-old man who had suffered burns to his entire body and died on scene.

According to ER24 spokesman, Pieter Rossouw, the man allegedly had previous injuries that made movement difficult and it is believed he could not escape the fire in time.

ER24 and fire and rescue services attended the scene and no other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown but police are investigating.
