WEDNESDAY, 13 APRIL: Birdlife Port Natal indoor meeting 7pm at the Westville Methodist Church. Harry Gazendam, one of the top bird photographers in the country, will introduce the wonders of bird photography. Call Lesley on 083-231-3408.

THURSDAY, 14 APRIL: KwaZulu-Natal branch of the South African Military History Society meets at 7pm for 7.30pm at the Murray Lecture Theatre, Department of Civil Engineering, University of KwaZulu-Natal Howard College campus. There will be two talks and the topics are ‘From mirror-shined boots to the spirit of the bayonet’, presented by John Goodrich and ‘Iron Fist from the Sea’, presented by Lt Col Douw Steyn. THURSDAY, 14 APRIL: Montclair Senior Citizens Club monthly meeting at Methodist Church Hall at 9.30am where the Bessie Williams choir will perform. Seniors in the area are welcome to join for a morning’s entertainment. A donation of R5 will be collected towards refreshments.

SATURDAY, 16 APRIL: South African Writers’ Circle monthly meeting at the Westville library (room G3) at 11am, where Robin Lamplough, well-known local historian, will be guest speaker. The theme is historical fiction and the title of the talk ‘Writing history’. A workshop will follow. Non-members are welcome. Take along a plate of snacks. Members R10, non-members R20. WEDNESDAY, 20 April: Birdlife Port Natal outing to Amanzimtoti Bird Sanctuary at 8.30am. Meet at the parking area by the gate. Tea and sandwiches will be available at very reasonable cost. Call Lesley on 083-231-3408.

TUESDAY, 26 APRIL: Annual senior citizens tea party at Grosvenor Girls High School from 10am. All senior citizens over the age of 65 years are invited to attend. Call the school on 031-467-3614 before 18 April and speak to Mrs Offer to book a place.
